Okay, that’s not really happening, but it certainly looks like it should be. I mean, look at this MiniGod thing! It looks like it should be a prop at a high-tech luau. Its style is reminiscent of the Jetsons (especially with the ring around its neck) mixed with that CG movie Robots. That is, if Robots had been a darker, scarier movie. (Actually, it could be if you stopped and thought about it. I mean, it was a world inhabited by robots, for crying out loud. What happened to the humans?)

Believe it or not, these MiniGod Speakers require only a 9 volt battery for operation, then hook up with a computer or stereo system. You can also hook up to an iPod, and then you’ll have yourself a little amplification.

These MiniGod speakers are about 15 inches tall, and are actually available in a few different models and color combinations.

Man, nothing gets me up in the morning like my iPod and hot cup of joe. Hey, I’ll bet it would work twice as good if I combine the two…there! Oh man, I really need to get sober, fast.

Yes, that does sound stupid, but the photo to the left is not the product of a hangover, but an actual product. This is a designer’s bright idea of an iPod speaker “disguised” as a coffee mug.

The Music Mug works on any MP3 player, provided it has a headphone jack. All you need to do is plug the Music Mug’s cable into the MP3 Player, and let the music play. Just don’t try and pour coffee or some other hot beverage into your Music Mug. The Product Page clearly warns about that.

Is this Music Mug really meant to be some sort of subterfuge for your iPod? If so, then I recommend a smaller MP3 Player that won’t stick out the top, such as the Creative Zen Stone. That way, if your office allows coffee, but not MP3 players, you will finally be able to “beat the system”. Of course, your boss and other co-workers might wonder where the music is coming from. They’ll never suspect the innocent coffee mug!

UK mobile developers Coolgorilla have launched the London Travel Guide, a free travel guide specifically designed for iPods, iPhones and mobile phones.

The London Travel Guide packs over 400 pages of info, along with interactive features, onto your portable media player. The guide is designed to be regularly updated, so you can have the most up to date information about each attraction, including entrance fees, phone numbers and websites.

iPhone and mobile users can simply click on the phone number of the attraction to call them up, or use the website link to go directly through to the attraction’s site to find more information.

Coolgorilla designed the iPod version to be downloaded as a podcast via iTunes and the iPhone and mobile versions have both been optimised so visitors can access the information over the handset’s web browser.

“A recent road trip through California got me thinking about how we could improve on the traditional, paperback travel guide” said Roy Forsdick, Managing Director of Coolgorilla. “By using the content rich features available on iPods and mobiles we can help travelers get the most out of their visit to London. Also, since software isn’t exposed to the same reproduction costs as hardcopy publications, we can distribute the guides for free!”

Coolgorilla is already working on similar travel guides for a number of other cities including Paris, Barcelona, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, due to be released later this year.

The company plans to make money from the travel guides through advertising deals.

Rogue Amoeba has released Airfoil 3.1, the latest version of its Airport Express streaming audio utility for Mac OS X. Airfoil allows users to send audio from any application to an Airport Express, and can also send audio to multiple Airport Express units simultaneously. New features in version 3.1 include support for the Apple TV’s new AirTunes feature, which allows Airfoil to stream audio to the set-top box, and support for Airfoil Speakers for Windows. The release also fixes a DVD playback issue with Mac OS X 10.5.2, and includes various other fixes and improvements. Airfoil 3.1 requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later and sells for $25; users of Airfoil 2 can upgrade for $10. In addition to the Mac version, Rogue Amoeba also offers Airfoil 2.5 for Windows; it sells for $25 as well.

Apple has lowered its 2008 NAND flash memory order forecast, a new report indicates. According to iSuppli, the company “has slashed its 2008 NAND order forecast significantly and has informed suppliers that its demand growth will slow in 2008 compared to 2007.” The reports states that this is expected to have a large impact on the NAND market overall, as Apple was the world’s third largest OEM buyer of NAND memory in 2007, with purchases of $1.2 billion, which represents 13.1 percent of the global market. Apple currently uses NAND flash memory in most of its portable consumer devices, including the iPod shuffle, iPod nano, iPod touch, and the iPhone. Prior to learning of Apple’s lowered forecast, iSuppli had predicted that the company’s NAND purchases would rise 32.2 percent this year, helping to encourage significant market growth.

Does God want us to be rich? Does being wealthy prevent us from going to Heaven?

In Matthew 19:24, Jesus states, "And again I say unto you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God". This is repeated in Mark 10:25.

Luke 16:19-31 tells the story of Lazarus and the rich man. Lazarus, the beggar died and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom, while the rich man ended in torment.

On the surface, this seems to indicate that God does not look favorably on the wealthy. But how do we know where the line is drawn between securing our future and becoming rich? [rich get money]

We must remember that there are several rich, yet righteous men throughout the Bible.

Job was a rich man, blessed by God in many ways until Satan was allowed to test him.

Satan took everything he had and killed his children, yet Job remained righteous.

Once again, God allowed Satan to test Job by covering him with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

All that Job had was gone, except his wife, who promptly urged Job to "curse God and die". How is that for support? Obviously Satan left her behind for a reason.

Yet, in the end, Job remained righteous and loyal to God. He also showed great compassion by praying for his three friends, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite, who had not spoken of God the thing that is right (Job 42:8).

God rewarded Job by blessing him with twice as much as he had before. He was blessed with seven sons and three daughters and lived another 140 years. [rich get money]

So what does all this mean? Does God want us to be rich? When Jesus spoke of the camel going through the eye of a needle, was he suddenly changing the rules?

Not at all. Jesus knew that money meant power and that power corrupts even good people.

Bill Gates is one of the wealthiest, if not the wealthiest person in the world. Yet he regularly gives millions of dollars to worthy causes every year. This doesn't mean he is going to Heaven, but it is a step in the right direction.

But for every Bill Gates in the world, there are many Scrooges, who never think twice of cheating the poor to pad their own bank accounts.

It is not wealth that condemns a person, it is what they do with it.

If you are one of the lucky people who have wealth, consider this. Do you own your wealth or does it own you?

The downside of mixing business with blood should be obvious - or at least it will be when you start getting late-night calls from Aunt Tillie asking about your schedule for an IPO. But hitting up relatives is how a lot of businesses get going. It's what Kyle Campos and his older brother Aaron had to do.

In 2004 the brothers, both software engineers, quit their jobs in Santa Barbara and decamped to Buckeye, Ariz. After visiting relatives there earlier that year, Kyle had become convinced that the town was "filled with wide-open opportunities," especially compared with the software biz. "The tech sector was getting hit hard," says Aaron. "I didn't have a good feeling."

Aaron and Kyle, neither of whom had run a business before, began brainstorming about starting one together. Both had frequented a smoothie joint in Santa Barbara, and they fell in love with the idea of starting their own. They found an industry consultant online who helped them write a business plan. Then they hired an experienced designer. The Main Squeeze would be a 1,200-square-foot store with hardwood floors and stainless-steel tables. And it would cost more than the $130,000 they had saved.

That's when they drew up a list of 40 friends and relatives they could solicit as investors. "We wanted it to seem like we were offering them an authentic business opportunity," notes Kyle. For that they turned to CircleLending, a site that helps informal borrowers create formal lending deals. The siblings spent $99 to set up a loan agreement, choosing an attractive interest rate (9%), a repayment schedule they figured they could afford (either five or seven years) and a $1,000 minimum. Four folks each lent them $1,000, and another four each threw in $5,000. Last year the Campos brothers whipped up a profitable $210,000 in sales, and they've been paying their investors on schedule for close to two years. Says Kyle: "Not one has complained."

We just got a couple of images sent to us from an anonymous source who claims that this is the new iPod nano that we can expect Steve Jobs to announce at the Apple Special Event taking place this Wednesday, September 5th. Since we’ve seen so many photoshop mockups floating around the Internet recently, we are not saying these are the real deal by any stretch of the imagination - however, we love how these look, and a guy can dream, can’t he?

Sony has introduced two new Made for iPod shelf systems featuring integrated iPod docks and Bluetooth connectivity. The CMT-BX20i and CMT-BX50BTi systems feature gloss black finishes and florescent displays. The iPod menu and system features can be accessed with the remote control, while the system charges the device. “We are continuing to evolve our shelf system offerings to reflect consumer listening habits,” said Andrew Sivori, director of personal audio marketing in the Digital Audio and Imaging Division at Sony Electronics. “With the addition of iPod docks to most models, along with a bolder, more dramatic offering in our Muteki line, there’s a Sony shelf system for just about everyone.” The CMT-BX20i system offers a front-loading optical drive with support for CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 Playback, along with an audio-in jack and a bass reflex speaker system with 50 watts of total power. Other features include an AM/FM tuner with 30 station presets, Dynamic Sound Generator X-tra sound processing, and a remote control. The CMT-BX20i micro shelf system will be available in February for about $130. Tekkeon unveils NavDock iPod Media Center

Tekkeon has introduced the NavDock, a new Home Media Center with on-screen iPod navigation. In addition to the integrated iPod dock and support for the iPod nano (with video) and iPod classic, the NavDock also features a 16-button wide angle infrared remote with a five-way navigation pad and quick keys that jump directly to the Videos, Photos, Music or Settings menus, and the ability to charge the iPod whether the unit is on or off. “With NavDock, we wanted users to have virtually complete on-TV control of their iPods,” says Jerry Yang, president of Tekkeon. “Rather than just provide minimal access to some of the iPod menus, NavDock enables users to take advantage of commonly used features, like lyrics and equalizer, all with the NavDock remote.” The Tekkeon NavDock is available now and sells for $130.

ZAP to show ‘Made for iPod’ electric car at Expo

Electric car manufacturer ZAP has announced plans to show a “Made for iPod” car next week at Macworld Expo in San Francisco. The company said it will be designing its cars to include a head unit made for the iPod that will play music through the car speaker system as well as recharge using the ZAP Recharge-It-All made for iPod battery system. The first cars equipped with this technology are expected to be available later this year, and ZAP says it has plans to include the technology in all its cars. “Apple is making some of the most popular consumer products on the market today,” said ZAP CEO Steve Schneider. “A ZAP electric car made for iPod joins an important trend happening throughout the automotive industry to give car-buyers more amenities. So many bring their iPods with them wherever they go that having the capability to listen to and recharge them in your car can only attract more customers.” Previously, the company had announced that it will debut its new iZAP line of iPod mobile rechargers at the show. According to the company, the line will use “advanced lithium battery storage and charge control technology to power or boost the battery life of the iPod.”

Can Navizon survive Google?s location mapping in iPhone v1.1.3?

As the iPhone gets more and more comfortable with itself as the “gotta-have” gadget of 2007, nay 2008, the Apple handset just keeps getting better with time. Firmware upon firmware, the iPhone keeps adding more usability and functionality at the click of a (”Sync”) button.
The next iPhone firmware release, previously rumored and now widely documented as the v1.1.3 firmware version, touts Google’s new location-based “My Location” mapping feature built into the Google Maps application. There are other cool features included in the v1.1.3 firmware, but we’re just going to talk about the location-mapping aspect of Google Maps.
Until now, the only way to get cell-tower triangulated positional data (we like to call it faux-GPS) on your iPhone was through a third party application called Navizon. The application is incredibly handy and was recently updated to give directions from your current (approximate) location and keep in touch with friends (the “Buddy” feature). And, in the face of Google’s recent “My Location” announcement, Navizon launched a “Lite” (read: free) version to keep up. Well, now that the new Google “My Location” feature is ready to prime-time with the next iPhone update, we have to wonder what Navizon is doing to keep up.
So, we went to our little birdie to get more info on what to expect from Navizon in the future and it looks promising.
Navizon already offers (for free) the same type of cell-tower triangulation technology upon which Google?s ?My Location? features relies. But, if you need even more accuracy (close to that of GPS positioning) Navizon offers a premium upgrade that leverages WiFi hotspot-positioning to help you get an even more accurate location-information.
But, that?s not all. We can?t exactly tell you what (at least not yet), but Navizon will be offering even more unique and exciting features in the near future. Fear not, Navizon fans, Google?s ?My Location? (likely) integration in the� next iPhone firmware update will not be the end of your favorite little location-information application.

Altec Lansing T612 speakers work with the iPhone

Altec Lansing T612 are the new speakers from the Plantronics-owned company that officially work with the iPhone and other new-generation iPod models. Unlike Altec’s other iPod-only speaker systems, the T612 is primarily made to work with Apple’s handset, hence it features incoming call support - allowing users to actually hear the iPhone ringing (music stops). Once the call is completed, the iPhone is re-docked in the T612 and the music resumes playing at the same song and place.
As for the specs, the T612 boasts “powerful neodymium speakers and XdB bass-enhancement technology,” as well as the standard auxiliary-in jack on the back for connection to older iPod models and other audio devices. In addition to the speaker, buyers also get a wireless remote for iPod song navigation functionality.
Altec Lansing T612 speakers will be available in February 2008 at Apple retailers for $199.95 (U.S. MSRP). In the meantime, you may want to see them live at Altec Lansing’s CES booth - South Hall 1, Booth #20913. Official release is available from here.
